A Few Simple Tips and Tricks for the Adventurer:
Tip #1: Do not insult strangers. Your average stranger may only be a simple peasant in rags, but he could also be a crazed mage ready to annihilate half of the city.
Tip #2: If an acquaintance wears black all the time, frequently says sinister or confusing things, and has a devilish, demonic, or undead companion, THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIEND.
Tip #3: Do not try to be a hero. Heroes have short life spans and go unremembered in any case, because it is the cowards who write the history books.
Tip #4: When adventuring in a potentially dangerous locale for the first time, take a friend. Preferably one whom you dislike, and who runs slowly.
Tip #5: If an adventurer who is experienced at surviving in a land tells you to do something, do so immediately and without asking stupid questions such as What?, Why?, or By the gods, is that a balor?
Tip #6: Do not believe every rumor you hear. Often those who tell them are lying or stupid.
Tip #7: Make friends. It is difficult to get far without them. In addition, every friend is one less person trying to kill you.
Tip #8: Never, ever drink drow-made wine. Ever.
Tip #9: If an acquaintance gives their name as one thing, and then answers to another name, chances are that neither is their REAL name. Chances also are that you should avoid this person.
Tip #10: The power of right means nothing in the face of a well-trained, well-equipped horde.
Tip #11: Respect the territories of others. Every inn, city, forest, or empire has its ruler, and within their domains it is best to abide by their rules.
Tip #12: When not if you are captured and interrogated, do not claim to prefer death to betrayal. You may be taken seriously.
Tip #13: Carry the right equipment for any situation. A sword, no matter how sharp, is of no use against a mage on dragon-back.
Tip #14: Try not to start any wars.
